The concepts of moral distress and moral injury present in medical contexts but are also observed in wider health and human service work. Workers experiencing these are often left feeling significantly compromised and conflicted which impacts their wellbeing. As supervisors and mentors we need to be aware of how moral distress, residue, apathy and injury present, and support supervisees and mentees to respond from moral courage to take moral action. In this presentation the terms will firstly be defined and explored, followed by identifying ways to assist supervisees/mentees to take moral action. Moral action contributes to moral resilience and moral intelligence; both of which are strongly needed in our world today.
