Standing in the Doorway: Exploring the therapeutic dimensions of professional supervision.

Professional supervision is often described as a place for reflection on ministry and practice, while therapy is seen as a place for personal healing and growth. But is the distinction really that clear? Whenever we invite practitioners to reflect on their fears, frustrations, griefs, hopes, reactions, and relationships, we are already entering territory that is deeply human—and therefore deeply therapeutic.
In this engaging and reflective workshop, we’ll explore the rich intersection, and boundaries, between supervision and therapy. We’ll consider how emotional, relational, and spiritual processes shape the work of ministry and vocation. Drawing on contemporary supervision theory, pastoral experience, and experiential approaches to learning, we’ll explore how supervisors can work confidently with the whole person while remaining grounded in the unique purpose of supervision. Rather than asking supervisors to ‘become therapists’, this workshop invites us to consider what becomes possible when we are willing to stand in the doorway between the two.
This OPEN PD Workshop is open to anyone. The morning PD is repeated in the evening. Cost is $30 for CA Members and $120 for Non-members.
