Supervisors & Mentors – What’s the Difference?
- Professional Pastoral Supervision is a structured, reflective practice focused on your work and your wellbeing. Recognised Supervisors are professionally trained and experienced in providing this form of support.
Supervision Interns are those who’ve completed supervision training and are gaining hours toward formal recognition. Interns do not charge for their services. - Mentoring is a relational and spiritually reflective journey with a more experienced leader, focused on growth, wisdom-sharing and encouragement. Chaplaincy Australia Mentors are seasoned ministers and leaders trained in the mentoring framework.

- Current Australasian Association of Supervision (AAOS) Supervisor Member or equivalent
- If not an AAOS Supervisor Member be able to provide evidence of 72 hrs of specific Supervision Training, 80 hrs of Supervision you have provided and 15 hrs of Supervision on Supervision

- At least five years’ experience in Chaplaincy or Pastoral Ministry
- Complete at least 5 hours specific Mentoring Professional Development per year
- Successful interview with CA Supervision & Mentoring National or State Cooordinator
- Suitable character reference outlining suitability to be a CA Mentor
- Must have your own Mentor or Supervisor and see them regularly
- Complete online application and submit required evidence
- Initial and annual payment of $100 per year or $50 if already a CA Member.

Graham Blok

Graham is an experienced, proficient and respected supervisor. Since 2015 he has had the privilege of supervising ministers, chaplains, pastoral supervisors and other care givers from across a wide variety of denominations, backgrounds and positions.
Graham sees supervision as an opportunity for reflective evaluation and transformative work, resulting in professional growth, enhanced self-awareness, and self-care. Dinah Eades Buchanan

Dinah is an experienced Counsellor, Gestalt therapist, Spiritual Director and Educator. In addition to her counselling and teaching, she has offered supervision to clinicians, pastoral care workers, chaplains, clergy, and allied health for the past 15yrs. Dinah has also been a Professional Supervision Educator, for the past 3 years. Michelle has been in church ministry for over 25 years and has been a chaplain in Community Aged Care, Prisons, Mental Health, Disaster Response and in the Funeral sectors.
Michelle is a lecturer and assessor with Alphacrucis University College for Cert IV and Diploma of Chaplaincy. Michelle was a trainer with Lifeline and facilitated the Domestic and Family Violence training, Suicide Prevention awareness training, the Crisis Supporter training and volunteered on the 13 11 14 Lifeline phones. Michelle was also the 1800Chaplain Director for the National Phone Support service for Chaplaincy Australia and the National Wellbeing Manager for Disaster Relief Australia.

She has over 25 years’ experience in diverse leadership roles in a large regional church.

Dr Amanda Nickson

Amanda has over 30 years’ experience as a supervisor and social worker, choosing the profession of social work as a way to express her Christian faith.
She has supervised staff in a number of human services including in child protection, homelessness, domestic and family violence and the health sector. She has served on church boards and has provided support and mediation in various situations that arise with pastors and leaders in church life.
She is a supervisor with Scripture Union for Chaplains in schools and is an ACC credentialed pastor.

Terence Corkin

Terence’s approach to Pastoral Supervision is to create a safe, supportive and honest space to facilitate a Supervisee’s ability to reflect on their life and ministry experiences and how this affects their ministry practice. The goal of Supervision is to develop self reflective practitioners. Terence does this through a conversational style where the use of questions and feedback facilitates the exploration of
the Supervisee’s experience. He is available across Australia by Zoom and where possible in person.
Terence is a Minister of the Uniting Church in Australia (UCA). He has served in rural congregations, regionally providing pastoral support to Ministers and Lay Leaders and as the General Secretary for the National Assembly of the UCA. Through the variety of ministry contexts in which he has ministered Terence has extensive experience in different ministry contexts and cross cultural sensitivity .
Terence has developed a Professional Pastoral Supervision practice across Australia over the last five years. He writes and teaches on conflict and change (makingchurchdecisions.com) and is a published author on consensus based discernment. Since concluding at the UCA National Assembly Terence has been released by his church to teach, provide Pastoral Supervision and to support congregations in conflict. Terence is a nationally accredited mediator (NMAS) and has a mediation practice in the community and in addressing conflict in congregations (winwinmediation.com.au).

Kim Langford

My approach to supervision is to create a warm, safe, and professional environment in which supervisees can explore their work context and be nurtured in their ministry role. Together we attend to the normative, formative, and restorative tasks of supervision in ways that are creative and respect preferred learning styles.
I am strongly influenced by models of supervision that invite a collaborative response to the theological, social, ethical, and interpersonal dynamics of any ministry situation. After studying to become a Physicist Ian became a Christian and commenced ministry in 1979 after further study. His first appointment was with Scripture Union in central Queensland before becoming the Director of Scripture Union (ACT). He commenced pastoral ministry in Canberra and continued in Queensland, resigning as Senior Pastor of North Pine Baptist after suffering a stroke. Ian was the Field Education Director for Malyon College for 12 months and a guest lecturer for several years.

Ian Rienits

Ian worked for 9 years as an engineer in industrial automation before commencing training in theology. I regret not finding a supervisor earlier and pray I can provide an opportunity for Christian leaders to take some time out to reflect on their ministry, to grow in self-awareness and wisdom, and to be refreshed to keep going with integrity.
I’ve been serving in vocational ministry for over 20 years, in a variety of roles, including as a women’s pastor and trainer on a university campus, and as a lecturer and Dean of Women in a theological college. I am an ordained Deacon in the Sydney Anglican Church and married to a Presbyterian minister.
